Ngwerere Area Information

Ngwerere is a prominent area on the outskirts of Lusaka. The area has seen immense growth over the past few years and continues to rise. This is one of Lusaka's fast-emerging markets.

New developments continue to spring up on what were once farmlands. These developments have made way for better service delivery, empowering the communities that live in the area.

Although farmlands are being used for residential and commercial properties, the area is still big on commercial farming. Ngwerere is known for its poultry, beef, dairy, and maize farms.

History of the area

According to the locals, the area gets its name from the Ngwerere stream. It is now mainly used for irrigation purposes by most of the farms in the area. The stream flows towards the Chongwe River which leads to the Chongwe Dam.

In August 2020, Standard Microgrid installed a mini-grid in the rural areas of Ngwerere. It has proudly equipped 150 homes and businesses with electricity. This has led to the introduction of new shops and businesses in the area.

Climate

As part of Lusaka, Ngwerere's residents also experience a warm and temperate climate. October is the best time to get into those bathing suits and relax at the pool. These are the area's hottest summer days. The coldest winter month in Ngwerere is experienced in July.

Ngwerere experiences its least amount of rainfall in August. The most rainfall occurs here in January, with an average of 250 mm.
